Going away to college is an exciting and sometimes challenging time in your life. Daily schedules, familiar people and the comforts of home are replaced by new routines, places and faces.
Your residence hall community plays an important part in adjusting to your new college life. The friendships that you build with your roommate and neighbors provide a strong support system during your college years.
All first year students are assigned to living-learning communities based on their academic program. Each community will be assigned to one of the three campus residence halls. Second year students may choose to live in a residence hall or campus apartment.
Campus isn't only for class. With approximately 98 percent of our undergraduates living in residence halls or Gunnison, it's also where you organize activities, make lifelong friends and feel at home.
First-year students live in Ute Hall, Mears Complex or Escalante Complex. Each features a resident advisor on every floor, lounges and laundry facilities. And every room is equipped with cable TV/wireless Internet connections and a phone jack.
Coed by wings, Ute is a traditional style residence hall where two students share a room. Each wing features a common lobby space and bathroom facilities. Ute Hall houses approximately 100 students.
The Mears Complex consists of three separate halls housing approximately 400 students. The rooms are suite-style with two double rooms sharing a bathroom and storage area. Mears is coed by suite.
Consisting of four halls, Colorado, Crystal, Dolores and Tomichi, Escalante offers double occupancy rooms for approximately 320 students. Coed by blocks of rooms, each block shares a semi-private bathroom. WSCU’s current fitness center is located in the Escalante Complex.

Don’t want to worry about landlords, signing a lease or paying extra for heat, cable and internet service? Check out the apartments in Chipeta Hall. Chipeta serves sophomores, juniors and seniors as well as transfer students. You can live in a furnished or unfurnished, one or two bedroom apartment. Apartments are equipped with a full kitchen, bathrooms and a living room. Laundry facilities are in the building.
Consider moving into WSCU’s newest student apartment complex The Pinnacles. Amenities will include three and four bedroom apartments featuring walk-in closets, extra storage area for bikes and skis and a full kitchen with a dishwasher. Laundry rooms are located on each wing and the complex also houses an attached greenhouse, a community kitchen and onsite recycling.
“My professors are committed to my success as much as I am. I am amazed at how much support they provide and how much they are like us—committed to the community and committed to being involved.”
