Residency Status for Tuition Classification

Tuition classification determines if you should have in-state or out-of-state tuition. Your initial tuition classification is determined from information you supply on your Western State Colorado University application for admission . You may file a petition if you wish to contest out-of-state classification status or if you become eligible for in-state status.

Changes in Tuition Classification
Individuals who feel they meet the requirements for in-state tuition may file a petition requesting a change in tuition classification. The procedure requires submission of the petition for in-state tuition, with appropriate documentation to support the claim of Colorado in-state status. Additional steps or requests for information may also be required. The burden of proof rests upon the petitioner who has the responsibility to submit a timely petition with the required documentation.

Appeal Procedures
Any student who is denied in-state tuition classification by the institution may appeal the decision. The appeal process includes an opportunity for the petition and supporting documentation to be presented to a panel of institutional or governing board representatives for review and resolution.

The final authority for decisions regarding residency classification at Western State Colorado University resides with the university.
